We are thrilled to announce that Professor Tanya Buchanan will be joining us at the National Care and Support Sector Conference 2026 as a distinguished speaker. A trailblazer in public health leadership, Professor Buchanan brings a rare combination of scientific rigour, policy expertise, and deep human compassion to everything she does.

About Professor Tanya Buchanan
As the current CEO of Dementia Australia — a position she commenced in May 2024 — Professor Buchanan leads Australia’s peak body dedicated to supporting the more than 421,000 Australians living with dementia. She arrived at Dementia Australia after serving as CEO of Cancer Council Australia from November 2020, cementing her reputation as one of the country’s most effective and empathetic not-for-profit leaders.
Holding a PhD and recognised as an Honorary Professor of Practice at the University of Wollongong, Professor Buchanan’s career spans health, research, neuroscience nursing, academia, and the not-for-profit sector. Her breadth of experience gives her a uniquely systemic perspective on how Australia’s care and support systems can be redesigned to truly centre the person — not the program.
At the conference, her insights will resonate deeply across sessions exploring person-centred care, workforce sustainability, quality safeguarding, and the future of care in a rapidly changing world.
