Research indicates that children residing in blended families, particularly those with a stepparent, face a heightened risk of abuse and neglect. Studies have shown that the presence of a non-biological parent figure in the household is associated with an increased likelihood of physical and sexual abuse.
Furthermore, family structures involving stepparents have been linked to higher rates of youth homelessness, mental health challenges, and substance abuse issues among affected children.
