We are delighted to announce that Professor Samar Aoun AM will speak at the WA International Women’s Day 2026 – Leaders Breakfast Event.

Professor Aoun holds the Perron Institute Research Chair in Palliative Care at the University of Western Australia (UWA). Moreover, she improves person-centred end-of-life care for underserved groups. These include people with motor neurone disease, dementia, and terminal illness, plus their families and carers. Additionally, she chairs Compassionate Communities Australia and the South West Compassionate Communities Network. Through these roles, she promotes community-led support. Specifically, she builds death literacy, strengthens networks, and delivers fairer palliative care beyond formal healthcare. Furthermore, as the 2023 WA Australian of the Year, Professor Aoun shifts care into communities. She empowers volunteers as “Community Connectors.” Above all, she champions compassion in dying, caregiving, and grieving.
