In this Post, we explore a deeper perspective on the purpose and challenges of the aged care sector in Australia, particularly from the standpoint of elderly individuals, families, and organisations. With firsthand experience in both community care and residential aged care, we take a candid look at the struggles and opportunities that come with providing high-quality services for the elderly.
We also tackle the debate around “duty of care” vs. “dignity of risk” — an issue that many care providers grapple with. We share our belief that, just like anyone else, elderly Australians should be allowed to take risks, make choices, and continue living their lives as they see fit, especially when those decisions come down to what they’d want for themselves or their loved ones.
If you’re passionate about aged care or have experienced the challenges of this sector, this video will offer valuable insights and perhaps challenge some of the conventional thinking around care for our elderly population.
